This course is intended to help providing a basic understanding of major theoretical strides in the economics of technological change and innovation. The focus of the course will be on identifying certain issues in economic transformation of developing countries and role of innovation therein.

The course is divided broadly into four parts; first part deals with conventional understanding of innovation and technological change with firm at the centre stage of analysis. The second section provides the new perspective on innovation with focus on systems perspective on innovation – national sectoral and regional. The third section aims at linking innovation to Development. The last section deals with the understanding innovation in a developing country context
